Congleton

None

The pretty market town of Congleton, nestling at the foothills of the Pennines, can be counted as some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Wildlife flock to it, attracted by the River Dane, and visitors can expect a warm welcome from a place that is officially the best place to live in the North West, according to the Halifax Quality of Life Survey 2009.

Known as Beartown, Congleton has plenty going for it. There are many places to visit including the historic Little Moreton Hall, used for filming in ITV drama Moll Flanders, and ancient manor house, Gawsworth Hall. There is also Jodrell Bank, Capesthorne Hall and Congleton Park as well as the Congleton Museum, a free children's paddling pool from May to September as well as an excellent choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. During the warmer months the town also welcomes boaters passing through on the Macclesfield Canal.
Visit one of the many halls that have been used in period dramas like Pride and Prejudice. Take a stroll in Congleton Park, cycle the Biddulph Valley Way or walk to the ruins of the Mow Cop castle.
Also, don’t miss the Food and Drink Festival in June.
