Holmes Chapel is an attractive village in the north of the borough, overlooking the Dane Valley. The centre of the village is the Parish Church, St Luke’s, which has a history of its own as in 1753 a fire engulfed the village that burnt down 18 of the 20 houses in the village. Only two cottages and the church were saved.

There is a railway station at Holmes Chapel and one at Goostrey with direct lines from Manchester and Crewe. However the bus services are limited.

The Dane Valley is situated in this area of picturesque Cheshire countryside and is popular with both walkers and ramblers alike. Also in the area is Jodrell Bank Science Centre & Arboretum, the focus of which is the Lovell telescope receiving radio waves from deep space. Other attractions include exhibitions and the 35 acre Arboretum with over 2,000 species of trees and shrubs.
